Lifting All Boats with a Heat-Tolerant and Cost-Effective Vaccine Against Goat Plague

Lifting All Boats with a Heat-Tolerant and Cost-Effective Vaccine Against Goat Plague

A groundbreaking heat-tolerant and cost-effective vaccine for goat plague (peste des petits ruminants, PPR) is set to transform livestock health in Africa and beyond. Developed with support from CGIAR and partners, this innovative vaccine addresses key challenges in vaccine storage and distribution, particularly in hot climates where refrigeration is unreliable.
Goat plague is a highly contagious disease that devastates small ruminants, threatening the livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers. The new vaccine promises to improve disease control, enhance food security, and boost economic resilience in rural communities.
